The app offers a personalized experience by connecting your horoscope with specific art pieces at MIA. In addition, the app provides a sense of companionship, as you can add friends and compare your horoscope with theirs to discover new art pieces at the MIA! This function provides multiple options for adding friends to the app, prioritizing user accessibility. MIA Horoscope app aims to promote museum engagement through companionship and overcoming the potential formalities of a museum.
To enhance the experience of discovering new art at the MIA, A physical and in-app interactive map was created to guide you and/or your friends to the art pieces indicated in the app. The elements of this experiential interactive project include wayfinding designs that compliment not only the application but also physical gallery spaces of the museum.
Took measurements of the MIA gallery and hallway’s dimensions. Because I was able to visit the physical location I recieved approximate measurements that infulence the size of my physical wayfinding assests.
A three-dimensional physical layout of the gallery hallway was designed to provide a unique way of guiding visitors to the artworks. Neon light fixtures curve to the left and right, directing visitors toward the art pieces and signage. The subdued reflection of the neon lighting also casts a glow on the wooden floors, enhancing the overall experience.
The app connects the user's horoscope with specific art pieces from the MIA collection and provides information on where to find each piece within the physical museum. When users find the designated artwork, they will receive their full horoscope. Additionally, a map icon at the bottom of the page directs users to a museum map, helping them navigate through the museum to locate their assigned horoscope art piece. Providing directions is just one aspect of the app's design. Experimental Interactive design choices of wayfinding were implemented to enhance MIA's unique horoscope experience and further immerse users.
To create a more immersive wayfinding experience within the app, I incorporated themes based on horoscope constellations with an arrow that guides you to the art piece. This feature complements the MIA Horoscopes’ physical wayfinding assets and provides an alternative experience from the standard map provided by the museum. If used physically, the app could vibrate with increasing intensity or emit twinkling sounds as you get closer to a piece of artwork, increasing the user accessbility of the app.
